My cartoon panel Ollie and Jacomo starts up a new season today. If you haven’t seen Ollie and Jacomo over the years, it’s a quick, comic panel featuring a rabbit and a hedgehog, two friends living in the little village of Coconut Cove.
Fortunately, Ollie and Jacomo have figured out what the rest of us haven’t: Life is one big joke. Unfortunately, we’re all in it.
Here are 10 reasons you should be reading Ollie and Jacomo every day.
1. They’re Probably Smarter Than Most Politicians
Of course, that’s not setting the bar very high. A houseplant with a necktie could probably qualify for Congress.
2. They’re Not Trying to Sell You Anything
No miracle weight-loss pills. No extended car warranties. No 30-day program to become a millionaire while sleeping. Just cartoons. Imagine that.
3. They’re Cheaper Than Therapy
And unlike your therapist, they won’t ask how that makes you feel. They’ll just make fun of you.
4. They Understand That People Are Idiots
Not all people, of course, not you and I. Just the ones driving, shopping, talking on cellphones, standing in front of you at the supermarket, or appearing on television.
5. They’re Not Artificial Intelligence
They’re actual drawings created by a real human being. Me. Remember those? Humans? They used to do things before computers started writing their wedding vows.
6. You Don’t Have to Remember Anything
Unlike those television shows with 47 characters, six different timelines, and a plot that requires a college degree, Ollie and Jacomo deliver the joke and let you get on with your life. It’s a daily quick read.
7. They’re Perfect With Your Morning Coffee
Coffee wakes up your body. Ollie and Jacomo wake up your sense of humor. Neither one can fix your life, but at least you’ll be alert while everything falls apart.
8. They Make Fun of Everyday Life
Technology, relationships, money, modern conveniences, and all those wonderful things that were supposed to make our lives easier. How’s that working out for everybody?
9. They’re More Entertaining Than the News
The news tells you the world is falling apart. Ollie and Jacomo tell you the same thing, only you get to laugh about it.
10. Because You Deserve One Laugh a Day
Seriously. You’ve survived traffic, inflation, automated customer service, and people who talk on speakerphone in restaurants.
