10 ways I lower my cholesterol fast and naturally

Here are 10 foods that can help lower cholesterol naturally (especially LDL “bad” cholesterol) when eaten regularly.

Many work by adding soluble fiber, healthy fats, or plant compounds that reduce cholesterol absorption. I eat most of these daily.

1. Oats

  • Rich in beta-glucan soluble fiber, which helps remove LDL from the bloodstream.
  • Eating 1–2 cups of oatmeal daily can lower LDL within weeks.

2. Avocado

  • High in monounsaturated fats that raise good HDL and lower LDL.
  • Also contains fiber and plant sterols.

3. Beans

  • Includes lentils, chickpeas, black beans, and kidney beans.
  • High soluble fiber slows cholesterol absorption.

4. Fatty fish

  • Examples: salmon, mackerel, sardines.
  • Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce triglycerides and support heart health.

5. Almonds and other nuts

  • Provide healthy fats, fiber, and plant sterols that improve cholesterol balance.
  • A small handful daily is enough.

6. Olive oil

  • Contains heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and antioxidants.
  • Often used in the Mediterranean diet for cholesterol control.

7. Apples

  • Rich in pectin, a soluble fiber that helps reduce LDL cholesterol.
I love putting peanut butter on apples and then sprinkling them with chia seeds. I eat peanut butter that is roasted peanuts and salt. That’s it. No saturated fats or palm oil. Just plain peanuts and salt.

All apples are great. My favorites are Honey Crisp, Fuji and Gala. I have a cousin who likes to put hot honey on Honey Crisp apples.

I’ve tried regular honey, but never the hot honey, which I do want to try.

A fun thing we do is go upstate New York in the fall and apple and pumpkin pick – one of my favorite tins to do. Honey Crisp apples in the cool crisp fall air, what could be better?

8. Chia seeds

  • Packed with fiber and omega-3s that help reduce LDL and triglycerides.

9. Garlic

  • Contains compounds like allicin that may help lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

10. Green tea

  • Rich in catechins, antioxidants that help reduce LDL levels.

Extra tips to lower cholesterol faster:

  • Replace butter with olive oil or avocado oil
  • Eat 25–30 g of fiber daily
  • Exercise 30 minutes most days
  • Reduce processed foods and trans fats

💡 Simple daily combo that works well:
Oatmeal + chia seeds + apples + green tea in the morning.
