You’ve seen them, they are popping up all over. The golf cart.
It belongs on the golf course not on urban or city streets. Not in small villages. Not on bike paths or taking up valuable parking spaces in town.
Driving a golf cart in an urban or any non-golf course setting, might raise a few eyebrows and potentially give off “schmuck” vibes for a variety of reasons. Here are ten possibilities:
1. It Looks Out of Place
Golf carts are designed for golf courses or gated communities, not bustling city or village streets. They stand out like a sore thumb among regular cars, buses, and bikes.
2. Lack of Speed
Golf carts usually max out at a very slow speed compared to other vehicles, which can frustrate other drivers and make you look impractical.
3. Minimal Safety Features
Without doors, airbags, or a proper chassis, golf carts look less like a vehicle and more like a toy—especially when navigating busy urban traffic. Many I’ve seen don’t have license plates, which are the law in most places.
4. Inconvenience for Others
Taking up a lane with a golf cart might inconvenience other drivers and draw judgmental stares.
5. Perceived as Pretentious
Some might think you’re making a statement, but it can come across as trying too hard to be quirky or different.
6. Noise and Pollution Contrast
In electric golf carts, the silent motor contrasts with urban chaos, while gas-powered ones might seem unnecessarily polluting for their size.
7. Limited Utility
Many settings often require vehicles that can carry more than a set of golf clubs. Using a cart for errands looks inefficient.
8. Weather Vulnerability
Without proper weatherproofing, you’re exposed to rain, cold, or extreme heat, making it look like you didn’t plan ahead.
9. Visibility Issues
Golf carts are lower to the ground, making them harder for larger vehicles to see. This makes your choice look not just odd but unsafe.
10. “Look at Me” Factor
It screams for attention in a way that might not be flattering, akin to someone showing off an impractical outfit at a formal event.
While it may be fun and even practical in certain contexts, driving a golf cart in an urban area could come off as a peculiar or impractical choice! And it’s inconsiderate for everyone else.
